Pattern & Color:

Juveniles hatch out gray with darker heads and broad black neck bands, below the neck band pinkish, which extends down the belly, turning gray/black.

 Adults usually very dark gray to black, with the broad black neck band, and red to orange color below, sometimes extending quite a ways before turning dark gray/blackish.

Size:

Average 120 - 220 cm. (approx. 4' - 7')

 

Distribution:

Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Democratic Republic of the Congo (except in the center), Congo, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea Bissau, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Gambia, Mauritania, Sudan, Tanzania, Somalia, Togo, Uganda, Zambia.
